This post is for the 8 or so of you who actually read my blog and wonder where I've been. Thank you for caring. :)
Like many people, I’ve been short on work and long on the effort to find it. I have written another children’s book (which I’m very excited about), it’s just a matter of illustrating and publishing them both. Easy, right? One can hope.
In the midst of it all, I keep my spirits up by making fun videos with my kids. If you’re not on my Facebook page then you haven’t seen these 2, and they should give you a good grin if you need one.
The first is a song we made up about our Betta Fish (it's a catchy little tune), and the second is the 3 of us dressed like rock stars playing Air Guitar on the couch. Try that in high heels! Yeah, it's a trip. Literally. The bloopers are included so you can go watch me fall over if you like. :p
We actually won First Place with it in a small Air Guitar contest someone had on YouTube! Wooo-Hooo! Now I can officially say I am an "Award Winning Video Maker." :) There was no prize per se, but the nice people I met and new friends I made as a result are the greatest reward.
(Blog continues below the videos.)
In other news (I’ve always wanted to say that), I changed my Twitter name to match my YouTube channel, CoolLikeYourMom. It was Splatterdays (because "SplattersoftheHeart" was too long), but someone on the web already uses Splatterdays and God knows I have to be original. I’m also trying to streamline my life (and focus on the positive), and CoolLikeYourMom makes people smile. I dig that.
It makes me happy to make others happy (not in a codependent kind of way, but you know what I mean). The world needs more joy right now. If I can brighten someone’s day, then I’ve done well. So I’m gonna do more of it.
I received an anonymous comment once saying I should return to my "thoughtful blogs" and give up this "wannabe YouTube star" thing. Nice, huh? I have 2 "thoughtful" words for this person -- NO WAY. (Yes, that's the G-rated version. The first 2 words that came to mind I will leave to your imagination.)
My kids are my joy and I want to make the most of the time I have with them. As Emerson said, “This time, like all times, is a very good one, if we but know what to do with it.”
And let me tell you something, it takes a lot more to make a good video than most people think. The editing alone will kill you if you let it. And don't even get me started on lighting. Not to mention the hutzpah it takes to put yourself out there in the first place! But it’s also a ton of fun and very rewarding when something you’ve created makes other people laugh.
So, that’s the plan. I’d like to start a CoolLikeYourMom website where I can put all of the Mom and kid pics, blogs, videos, etc. I’ll have more ways (and more room) to share the fun, the precious moments, and cute kid quotes. I'm looking forward to it.
I’m not sure how long the process will take. (I do own the domain though, so that's progress.) As with everything else in my life, I will learn as I go and keep you posted. I do hope you’ll come along for the ride.
Many Smiles,
Monica
